Police Services
For a police emergency or to report a crime in progress, dial 911 immediately. To report a crime that has already occurred and involved injury, threats, or danger, contact the San Mateo Police Department’s non-emergency line at 650-522-7700.
To report an abandoned vehicle, use the abandoned vehicle service request.
Public Works
Our Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and cleaning of 200 miles of City streets, 87 signal intersections, over 7,000 street lights, 260 miles of sewers, 130 miles of storm drains, 11 parking lots and garages, 27 sanitary sewer pump stations, 10 storm drain pump stations, 3 dams, 1 flood control lagoon, 1 wastewater treatment plant, City-owned buildings/facilities, and more! Public Works receives and processes over 5,000 service requests each year. Examples of service requests that can be submitted to public works are linked below:
- Curbs or sidewalks: Damaged curb/gutter, sidewalk trip hazard, tree grate issue
- Graffiti: Graffiti on public property
- Streets: Faded street markings, ponding, pothole
- Traffic Engineering: Crosswalk request, stop sign request, traffic signal timing
- Transportation Planning: Curb marking request
My San Mateo is for non-emergency issues only. For issues that require emergency support please call Public Works at (650) 522-7300; examples of emergency issues include flooding, debris in the right-of-way causing a traffic hazard, knocked down traffic signals, flooding, and sewer overflows.
Code Enforcement
Code Enforcement helps address concerns related to private property compliance. To submit a request, select the appropriate option below:
- Construction complaints
- Graffiti on private property
- Overgrown vegetation on private property
- Substandard housing
- Trash on private property

Parks and Recreation
The Parks and Recreation Department’s mission is to enhance the quality of life and strengthen the bonds of community by providing an appropriate mix of safe, well-maintained and well-designed parks, open spaces, and community center facilities that are accessible for all residents; provide enriching leisure opportunities for all age groups; and to preserve and protect the City’s natural resources, including its urban forest, public open spaces, and landscaped medians and islands.
Use the My San Mateo app and web portal to report issues in our City’s parks including:
- Damaged picnic tables or benches
- Field and court lighting problems
- Irrigation issues such as broken sprinklers or water leaks
- Playground equipment and maintenance issues
- Restroom issues
- Concerns with trees in parks or on trees in the right-of-way
